Verse 19-20 Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.
The writer was not in fellowship with the LORD at this time. He says things that seem right, but they are off. If the person seldom thinks about his life and He says that God keeps him busy, well he is saying that God hardened his heart, which means that was in his heart in the first place. We are to think about God all day and sing hymns and reflect because we are sinners. We need cleansed and redirected all the time.
It is more of a gift to be alert and sober minded. Solomon wasn't here. How do I know this? I have been on both sides. I let my heart get hardened and ignored God for a time. It is called being lukewarm and God says He will spit us out of His mouth if we are.
