Verse 10 This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority- the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.

Sometimes we need to be tough and bold to people. It is in love to get them to wake up and snap out of sin. Sometimes we need that done to us. It is very rare though. Most people don't pay attention or care to tell anyone anything. Perhaps they are out of fellowship with Jesus too.
