Verse 17

The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.

You are paid because you are honorable sticking to the Bible. Don't get caught up in culture. Before this it talked about widows and younger women not being busybodies going from house to house. Then it talks about elders in verse 17. We expect you leaders to be honorable and good examples sticking to the teaching of the Word and not being busybodies. It confuses the church and will bring damage. Keep yourself pure.
